Bequests

To: Ann Cox (Wife)

Houshold goods etc to be in trust by brother John Cox of Wallingford and brother in law Abraham Darby of Maidenhead for wife Ann Cox during her natural life and then in trust for children John, Elizabeth and Joseph Cox in equal shares.  In the event of a child's death his portion to be divided between the surviving children on attaining 21 years.  Should wife Ann remarry then the trusteees to ensure personal estate not wasted by her husband and that it goes to the children.

0002: Thames in the County of Oxford Inn Holder being Weak in body but of Sound and
0003: Disposing Mind Memory and Understanding but calling to mind the Uncertainty of
0004: this Life do for the Settling and Disposing of the Worldly Estate wherewith It hath
0005: pleased God to bless me make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner
0006: Following (that is to say) First I will that all my Just Debts and Funeral Expenses be
0007: Fully paid and Satisfied and from and after payment thereof I Give Devise and
0008: Bequeath unto My Loving Brother John Cox of Wallingford in the County of Berks
0009: Carpenter and unto My Brother in Law Abraham Darby of Maidenhead in the said
0010: County of Berks Cooper All my Houshold Goods Stock in Trade Ready Money and
0011: all other my Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what Nature and
0012: KindsoEver To Hold to them and the Survivor of them the said John Cox and Abraham
0013: Darby In Trust Only to permitt and Suffer my Loving Wife Ann Cox to Hold
0014: Use and Peaceably and Quietly Enjoy the same and every part thereof for and during

Statement accompanying the grant of probate records that 'the Testator died in  1762.   On 15 June 1778 the will was  proved in Oxford by Ann Higgs formerly Cox widow, the relict of Jonathan Cox, as the sole executrix, swearing on oath before a Judge.
