To my wife one quarter of my property at Cookham for her life; one quarter of all my property, farm and lands in the parishes of Hurley, Lawrence, Waltham, Shottesbrooke and White Waltham, late in the tenure of Joseph Church now John Horwood for her life; one quarter of my two properties in Henley town and one quarter of the property in Watlington, for her life and after her death these one quarter parts to my children William, John and Elizabeth to be shared equally.  The other three quarters of the above properties to be divided between my three children William, John and Elizabeth Clinton to be shared equally as tenants in common. The property in Cookham to be mortgaged by my Trustees should there be insufficient money available to pay my debts after the sale of my lease and farm at Henley.

0001: In the Name of God Amen
0002: I John Clinton of Henly upon Thames in the County of Oxon
0003: Yeoman being weak in body But of a sound disposing mind
0004: and memory Thanks be given to Almighty God for the same
0005: but considering the uncertainty of this life and the certainty of
0006: death Do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and
0007: Testament in manner following (that is to say) First and
0008: principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty
0009: God my body to the earth to be decently buried at Cookham
0010: near my said father in a handsome and decent manner at
0011: the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named And as for
0012: that worldly Estate it hath pleased God to bless me withall I
0013: give devise and bequeath thereof as follows and first my
0014: mind will and desire is that all my just debts be first satisfied
0015: and paid and as for the due performance thereof my meaning
0016: and desire is and I do hereby desire authorize and empower
0017: my loving friends Richard Kent of Thatcham in the County of
0018: Berks Gentleman George Calverly of Newberry in the said
0019: County of Berks Wine Merchant and John Piggott of Ruscomb
0020: in the said County of Berks Yeoman or any two of them to lett
0021: and dispose of my Lease and Farm which I rent at Henly upon
0022: Thames aforesaid and sell and dispose of all my stock of cattle

0025: with the same farm to the best bidder so soon as conveniently
0026: they can after my decease and the money arising by such
0027: sale to pay and discharge all my said debts of what kind soever
0028: in a regular course But if it should happen that the money
0029: arising by such sale as aforesaid should not be sufficient to
0030: discharge and pay all my debts Then I give devise and
0031: bequeath All those my messuages farm arable lands
0032: meadow and pasture grounds tyth and all other the
0033: premisses with the appurtenances whatsoever to the same
0034: belonging or in any wise appertaining used and enjoyed
0035: with the same all which said premisses are situate lying and
0036: being in the Parish of Cookham aforesaid and were late in
0037: my own possession and now in the possession or occupation
0038: of William Small or his assigns to hold all and singular
0039: the said premisses with their appurtenances unto the said
0040: Richard Kent George Calverly and John Piggott their heirs
0041: and assigns and to the survivor and survivors of them and to
0042: the heirs of such survivors But In Trust only for the several
0043: uses intents and purposes herein after mentioned (that is to
0044: say) That my Will and desire is that they the said Richard Kent
0045: George Calverly and John Piggott and the survivors and survivor
0046: of them and the heirs of such survivor shall and may and I do
0047: hereby give them full power and lawful authority to raise money
0048: out of the rents and profits of the said premisses or by mortgage
0049: or any other redeemable security of the said premisses as they
0050: shall think fit to pay and satisfy all my debts that shall be unpaid
0051: and unsatisfyed by the deficiency of my stock aforesaid then I give
0052: devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann Clinton one
0053: full fourth part of my said messuages or tenements lands tythes
0054: and other my premisses in Cookham aforesaid with their
0055: appurtenances and are now in the possession of William
0056: Small or his assigns To hold to my said wife for and during the
0057: term of her natural life And I do also give and bequeath unto
0058: my said wife Ann Clinton one fourth part of all that my
0059: messuage tenement or farm with all the lands and premisses
0060: thereto belonging with their Appurtenances situate lying and
0061: being in the several parishes of Hurley Lawrence Waltham

0063: of Joseph Curch and now of John Horwood To hold to her for and

0120: harmless therefrom and that my said Trustees shall be
0121: charged or chargeable with any more money then what
0122: shall actually be received by him And not for any money that
0123: has been received by either of the other Trustees nor be charged
0124: or chargeable by any Act or Acts not done by himself And
0125: upon the Trustees settling the Account with the Legatees
0126: after the several debts and legacies are paid and satisfied
0127: the said legatees and all other persons claiming any title under
0128: the said Will shall seal and execute to the said Trustees
0129: sufficient releases and discharges of all claims and demands that
0130: they or any of them shall may or can have of the said
0131: Trustees their heirs executors or administrators any or
0132: either of them for or on account of the said Trust in them
0133: reposed in the said Will I do hereby revoke and renounce
0134: all former Wills by me made and publish and declare this
0135: to be my last will and Testament And I do hereby nominate
